I was working at a school for grades 5-12 when I became increasingly aware of a divide between those who understood digital media’s potential for connection, communication, and collaboration, and those who did not. Being born in 1985, I grew up alongside the internet and I used communication technology throughout my 10 year marketing & communications career. It became clear to me that the key to success in an ever digitally connected world is digital literacy. So in April 2016, I quit my job to start Sharespark Media, the movement to educate and empower people to utilize digital media to achieve meaningful goals. I also decided to document my journey through vlogs on YouTube.

Creating digital media and sharing my story online empowered me to discover my voice, explore my passion, and connect with others in ways that nothing else ever had. YouTube and other platforms allowed me to combine my passion, interests, and expertise to create my full time job of helping people achieve their goals.

Through Sharespark Media and Zero to YouTube Hero, I hope to teach as many people as possible how they can utilize digital media to share their stories and spark their potential.

I teach/coordinate a high school digital media pathway and make YouTube videos. From the time I first held an 8mm camcorder at 4 years old, making movies became a passion. From the time I entered my kindergarten classroom at 5 years old, teaching became a passion. Fortunately for me, these two paths merged in the form of digital media career technical education.

I firmly believe that digital media literacy is just as important as reading and writing. The Institute of Media Production Arts and Creative Technology (IMPACT) at Indio High School is a 4 year career technical education (CTE) pathway that develops student skills in the areas of filmmaking, graphic design, audio production, broadcast, animation, and leadership in preparation for postsecondary education and careers in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector. Most importantly, it teaches students to communicate, collaborate and think critically.

As for me, my YouTube Channel, The Enthusiasm Project, allows me to constantly expand my own skills and be creative while exploring my myriad hobbies and interests. Creating a YouTube channel is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done, and even if you're starting from zero, I promise that you have what it takes to become a YouTube Hero. I'm here to help guide you through the process as someone who is still relatively new to the world of being a YouTube Creator myself.

When does the course start and finish?
It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.
How long do I have access to the course?
Forever! After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course across any and all devices you own. You can watch the videos as many times as you want.
I don't have a camera. Can I still be a YouTube Hero?
All you need is something that records video, even if that's just your smartphone! You don't need anything fancy.
What if I do have fancy equipment? I have a pretty sweet video camera and other gear. Would I still benefit from this course?
If you already have equipment, even better but this course is more than just video production. As a YouTube Hero, you'll understand how to brand yourself online, connect with viewers, and build a community around your ideas.
I've never edited a video before and it sounds scary. Will you be covering that?
This course will go over the basics of video editing using iMovie but even if you use a different program or you've never edited before, you'll learn the fundamental techniques of video editing.
